Summer Maintenance Closings
Wellness Floor Closing: August 25 – 30, 2008
During this time we will be moving our equipment,
pulling up the existing carpet,
and laying down new carpet. At the end of this process (first week in September), we will also install 9 new pieces of equipment. Additional equipment will arrive by the end of October.
Pool Closing: August 23 - September 1, 2008
During this time we will be draining the pool,
cleaning the grout,
replacing some tiling,
and undergoing a general cleaning of the pool area. The large pool will be drained after closing on Friday the 22nd. The small pool will close on Saturday after swim lessons. We will also be deep cleaning the family locker rooms.
What does this mean for me?
- All group exercise classes will continue as scheduled.
- Some cardio equipment (steppers, bikes and the rowing machine) will be moved to the new lobby and multipurpose room.
- The strength room will be closed due to the dust and fumes.
- The studio will be open for light free weight, mat and stability ball work when classes are not taking place.
- Prime Time will not be running.
- The membership desk will be set up temporarily in the new lobby.
- Members will enter through the new lobby, not the usual main entrance.
- Members are welcome and encouraged to try the Pineland YMCA or Portland YMCA during this process. The Bath YMCA has also invited our members to utilize their facility during this week.
Thank you for your patience!
Story Walk
On August 1, the Casco Bay YMCA presented a Story Walk to children in the Y’s KinderCamp program. Prepared and presented by volunteers, the Story Walk featured a newly published book by Casco Bay YMCA employee, Catherine Berry Kellogg.
A Story Walk was the brainchild of the United Way initiative called Let’s Go! Books are enlarged and displayed to be read, with a related activity accompanying each page. The idea behind the project is to combine literacy with an active lifestyle and healthy eating.
The Y’s Story Walk was planned as an outside adventure, but the weather forced it to happen inside. This certainly did not deter the enjoyment and interest displayed by the participants. A great time was had by all.
You can sign up and participate in two Story Walks at Casco Bay. On September 19, the group will be reading Catherine’s book, The Moose That Ate My Fort, and on October 17th the book is entitled Scoot. Join us by signing up for one or both. The fee is $15. Both books are appropriate for children ages 5 – 10.
